What Does Web 2.0 Graphics Mean?

With all the uncertainty about what Web 2.0 really means.
Some graphic designers have chosen that Web 2.0 be interpreted as meaning a design style.
Others have written articles stating that web 2.0 is more of a group of technology’s (Ajax, Database driven frameworks…) that are helping change the web into a more interactive landscape.
Some people mix the two and say it means both.
And then theres those that just don’t care.
I purpose we come up with a name for the programing end of Web 2.0 and another for the graphics design end of Web 2.0.
Some thing like:
- Web 2.0 G for Graphics
- Web 2.0 P for Programing
What does it mean to design web 2.0 on the web?
Nows your chance to rave or rant.
So, that all leads us to the big question, we want to know:
What does Web 2.0 mean to you?

Overdone, overdone, overdone. If I see one more oversized RSS button or reflective nav bar I’m going to throw up in my own mouth. Designing for “Web 2.0″ is an easy way for mediocre designers to give themselves an edge. I’ve been bored of that look since 2006.

An interesting view Matthew,
A lot of times in my option web 2.0 graphics are over used.
And there is a point of no return on size sometimes.
There are good aspects of web 2.0 also that I really like.
Graphics designers who want to stay balanced should always pick from the best technology for the current project.
The problem some times is designers choose blindly from only web 2.0 inspired graphics ideas.
As long are designers keep their eyes open to all technology’s and pick from the best they will always create the best solution for their project.

I agree, Matthew. Web 2.0 has become a crutch for non-conceptual graphic design and a multitude of lookalike sites with designs that don’t surprise or engage as much as they could or should.
When I hear some say they’re designing a Web 2.0 site I almost immediately make a mental checklist of the trends and cliches I expect to see pop up. And we end up with a lot of copycats who can’t say WHY something is good, they just copy what other people SAY is good.Sort of like being functionally illiterate.
